Yidan Prize Conference Series: Europe 2021

What is innovation in education?

That’s the very question we asked in our first conference of the year. The Yidan Prize Conference Series: Europe 2021 event, held in partnership with the Department of Education, University of Oxford, was a half-day virtual session on 28 May, Friday.

The conference honored the achievements of the Yidan Prize for Education Research Laureate 2020, Professor Carl Wieman, and the Yidan Prize for Education Development Laureates 2020, Ms Lucy Lake and Ms Angeline Murimirwa from CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education). The conference also featured speakers including Dr Sobhi Tawil, Director, Future Learning and Innovation at UNESCO, members from the Yidan Council of Luminaries, Ms Vicky Colbert, Professor Larry Hedges, and Professor Thomas Kane; and speakers from the University of Oxford, Professor Sibel Erduran, Professor Harry Daniels, and Dr Susan James Relly.

From motivation to methodology, we’re casting an eye towards the future

It was a packed schedule, including:

  • insight from Dr Sobhi Tawil, Director, Future Learning and Innovation at UNESCO
  • panel discussions on how motivation affects behaviour and taking a scientific approach to improve teaching
  • Q&As with our laureates, luminaries, and experts from the University of Oxford

Registration was closed. Stay tuned to this page for playbacks and more.

As part of the European Conference, we also curated and hosted the 1st International Yidan Prize Doctoral Conference on 27 May, which explored the following questions:

  • How will education be delivered in the future?
  • What are the skills young people need [in order] to pursue the challenges they have?

The Yidan Prize Doctoral Conference was a closed event. We’re collecting conference papers from our participants to publish an inaugural volume of a series of annual Yidan Prize Doctoral Conference Proceedings.
