The world’s largest education prize Founder, Dr Charles CHEN Yidan exchanged insights on philanthropy with former U.S. President Jimmy CARTER
17 May 2018, Atlanta – Dr Charles Chen Yidan, the Founder of the world’s largest education prize, the Yidan Prize, visited The Carter Center to meet with former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter and to discuss about the future development of education and philanthropy. This high-level engagement has set a new momentum of the Yidan Prize in progressing global education.
At the meet-and-greet session, Dr Chen briefed President Carter on the education prize. The Prize aims to support and honor individuals with profound contributions to education and to empower them with transformative power to create a better world through education. President Carter also shared his works in Africa, Latin America and China as well as his mission, approach and impacts of education and philanthropy.
Dr Charles Chen Yidan said: “President Carter has been dedicating himself to world peace and global education not only during his presidency, but also after he stepped down as the President. During my visit to the Carter Center, the Yidan Prize Foundation and I hope to learn from President Carter’s valuable experience in education and philanthropy. His contributions to humanity has been an inspiration.”

About the Yidan Prize
The Yidan Prize is founded by Dr Charles Chen Yidan, the core founder of Tencent Holdings Limited. The Prize aims to recognize and support change makers for their most forward looking innovation that can create sustainable impacts on education systems for a better future. The Prize comprises two categories – the Yidan Prize for Education Research and the Yidan Prize for Education Development. The Prize is financed and governed by a HK$2.5 billion (about US$320 million) independent trust. Each prize carries an award of HK$30 million (about US$3.87 million), with a cash award of HK$15 million (about US$1.9 million), a further HK$15 million (about US$1.9 million) project fund, and a gold medal. Through a series of initiatives, the prize serves to provide a platform that allows the global community to engage in conversation around education and to play a role in education philanthropy.
