AI is already transforming the education system, and schools, educators, and individuals should use AI to their advantage, says Dr Charles CHEN Yidan, our founder, in a talk at Hong Kong Metropolitan University with Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, president of the university.

“We should experiment and explore the tool to derive joy and improvements to our productivity,” he says, adding that AI is already helping students learn new languages, write, and edit, and helping teachers prepare for classes and mark assignments.

But AI will not replace the education system, which is based on human capital — people’s knowledge, skills, experiences, and characteristics that drive productivity.

“Technology can simplify procedures and reduce points of contact for industries like telecommunications and commerce, but not education,” he emphasizes. “The biggest player in this system is the stakeholders, including the students, parents, school administration, and staff — these people are very important to the system.”
