“The demand for children to learn foundational skills and do it in a way that they enjoy to support teachers and to support education systems has never been higher,” says Luke Stannard, Program Director of ‘Can’t Wait to Learn’, War Child Alliance, who received our 2024 Yidan Prize for Education Development alongside Professor Mark Jordans and Marwa Zahr.

The team worked with relevant local authorities and developed educational games on ‘Can’t Wait to Learn’, tailoring content and design to cater to children from different countries.

“Each game is different based on the curriculum, and also the design of the game is different since it’s co-created with the children and also teachers. They get to choose the characters in the game, the environment, the landscape, the sense and feel of the game,” adds Marwa, Implementation and Practitioner Lead of ‘Can’t Wait to Learn’.

In an interview with SCMP, the team shares how ‘Can’t Wait to Learn’ is providing foundational learning for children in conflict settings, and how they plan to support more children with funds from the Yidan Prize.
